Using Hook Effectively? Topic

Does anyone have recommendations on how to setup pitcher hooks and use hooks effectively?
My main concern is if I set a low target pitch count and a high maximum pitch count as an alternative the engine might pinch hit for a pitcher I want to stay in the game?
My understanding is the main goal of hook is to lift a pitcher for the B-team and Mopups early to keep more pitches on your starter?

I know that pitchers aren't penalized on a game by game basis and don't become worse when shelled so I know hooking is cosmetic from a performance perspective, I'm just trying to understand the use case for managing innings pitched effectively?

I almost always use “1” for my pull setting. It guarantees my pitchers get their PCs and allows better fatigue control. I can draft less innings because there’s less ambiguity around how many IP I’ll need.

Occasionally, in progressive leagues I will use a “5” setting for a pitcher I am using in a tandem A role, to try to get them out as quick possible and to my tandem B. This usually guys with <60 IP and/or guys who are horrible, but I still need to get some IP out of and I want them doing the least damage.

I don’t really use any other setting.
