Around the Horn is entering its 29th season of existence, and we are looking for some quality owners to help keep us going! We have a mix of solid teams and rebuilds to choose from.
We have 15 members that have been in the world for at least 9 seasons, so we have had a pretty stable core ownership group for awhile.
We also have a 3-year 180 win MWR and 50-win minimum per season with the first season not counting towards the MWR, so you get a season free and clear to make the franchise your own.
We will be using the universal DH in Season 29.
Current Openings:
AL East
Chicago (106-56)
Probably of the most intriguing opening, Chicago had the best record in the league last year, but they also have 3-4 Type A free agents. Thus the next owner gets to decide if they want to continue to be in win-now mode or start a rebuild. They still have a good ML roster including the reigning Cy Young winner in Fernando Pimentel.
AL South
Tampa Bay (55-107)
A team in the middle of a rebuild, Tampa Bay will have the #2 pick in the upcoming draft.
AL West
Albuquerque (77-85)
Albuquerque has a mixture of talent on the ML roster and in the minors. In the minors, they have recent top 10 draft choices in Henderson Roberts, Karl Hitchcock, and Derrek Cust who all look like they can contribute with the big league club soon. They have the 12th pick in the upcoming draft.
NL East
Augusta (58-104)
They have talent on the ML roster but clearly underachieved. A new owner should be able to get them back on track, plus they have the #3 pick in the upcoming draft.
NL South
Florida (75-87)
A stable franchise in healthy shape, Florida has been able to have some success without spending too much on contracts. They have less than $50 million committed for this season. Thus, the next owner can build on the current roster and try to elevate this team to the next level. Their current roster includes a solid young SP in
Stryker Pavano, an excellent young closer in
Willie Rivera and some other intriguing young pitchers in
Matt Clark and
Don Gao. Offensively, they have an excellent leadoff man in
Ty Adams who can steal bases an elite rate, power hitting
Rodney Dunham, and a good OBP hitter in
Taylor Short.
Their prospect pool includes pitchers
Nathan Taylor and
Howard Peterson, a solid defensive SS with a good eye in
Esmailyn Mendez, and IF/utility player
Melky Vasquez. They have the
8th pick in the draft, so it's a good opportunity to add another quality prospect to the pool.
NL West
Scottsdale (80-82)
They have the reigning NL MVP in Jenrry Dolis and a pretty good roster behind him. They barely missed out on the playoffs, so they just need a few tweaks to get there.
Vancouver (75-87)
A well run franchise that had its long time owner disappear, Vancouver has a solid roster and some pretty good prospects. If not for the owner disappearing, this might have been a playoff team last season. The replacement did a good job righting the ship, including picking up IFA Jimmie Quintanilla after signing Hector Bennett the season prior. They have only $19 million in committed contracts and the 9th pick in the upcoming draft.
Tokyo (68-94)
They are coming off a down year, but Tokyo has made the playoffs in 5 of the last 7 seasons. They have some solid hitters in the majors including middle infielders
Jordan Durham and
Duke Crawford as well as an excellent speedy outfield including CF
Pat Forsch, RF
Byron Clayton (who can also play 2B), and LF
Terrence Bryne. Their pitching staff needs a little work, but they have
Eric Thompson (2.33 ERA last season), Ted Griffith who is coming off a 2.66 ERA season, and
Bobby Shannon (14-10, 4.38 ERA).
They have some decent prospects in the minors, including 1B
George Kendrick, P
Derrek Cust, and P
Hutson Swihart. They will have the
5th pick in the upcoming draft so you can add a good prospect to build around the current ML talent.
If you're interested, please sitemail me with the team you want to take over. You can relocate them to any city you want.
