Talkin Baseball Reboot - FULL Topic

Note: First two posts in this thread are current and what should be reviewed.

The original Talkin' Baseball progressive league completed 75 seasons (1951 through 2024). We had so much fun that we decided to do it all over again! The Talkin' Baseball Reboot League re-started with the 1961 season. We are heading into the 1969 season and looking to expand from 16 to 20 teams. We are looking to add four new expansion owners to join us in the 1969 season and beyond. We are only interested in attracting long term owners. 3/4 of the current owners have been in this league for 50+ seasons! As you may be able to tell, we are a long running, stable league. If you aren't able or willing to commit to a long term stay with us, we do appreciate you looking at this but this league would not be a good fit for either you or us.

This is truly a unique opportunity. In order to expand and attract four expansion teams, we are giving the expansion teams the entire 1969 rookie pool to build your team! In addition, each current team was obligated to donate 1-2 players to the expansion pool to help with PA's and IP's for 1969. There will also be players available that were left undrafted and/or cut from prior seasons.

Expansion from 16 to 20 teams will create four 5 team divisions. The division winners will be the only playoff teams. LCS and WS matches will be best of 7 series. We will place each expansion team in different divisions (one expansion team per division).

In the 1969 expansion season ONLY, that we do a 6/4 AAA split (6 hitters, but 4 pitchers instead of the normal 2). Below average players. In 1970 we will return to a 6/2 split.

Each season we have a first round draft lotto that will be three tiers: 6/7/7. This is determined after the first 120 games of the season. The six teams with the least amount of wins will pick somewhere between pick #1 and pick #6 in the first round (determined by lotto). There is a 30 win requirement to be included in the lotto (we will waive this rule for the 1969 season only due to expansion). If you have less than 30 wins at the 120 mark of the season, you will drop down to the second lotto tier (picks 7 through 13) while the team with the least amount of wins in tier two will be elevated to the first tier.

In the 1969 expansion draft, the four expansion teams will have a serpentine draft (1,2,3,4 in round one....4,3,2,1 in round two...1,2,3,4 in round three, and so on). The expansion draft will be 26 rounds (25 players and 1 ballpark). We are ready for you now and would like to get the expansion draft started as soon as we get four expansion owners. We will discuss whether or not the expansion owners want a clock for the expansion draft.

I can certainly provide access to our private forum to anyone who is interested in joining us. Below is a quick overview:
  • 16 team single season progressive which began with the 1961 season. Expanding to 20 teams starting in 1969. IMPORTANT: We will be expanding again to 24 teams starting with the 1977 season.
  • No DH currently, but the league has voted to add the DH beginning with the 1973 season. What is left to be resolved is if we are going to do the DH in both leagues or AL only. We had a vote on this and the 16 current owners were evenly split (8 votes each) to add the DH to both leagues or to AL only. We will take another league vote soon (with the expansion owners included) to determine if we will add the DH to AL only or both leagues starting in 1973. If there ends up being another tie, we will revert to mirror what MLB did in '73 (DH in AL only).
  • Injuries on
  • No live play
  • Unlimited IR
  • No salary cap
  • For seasons 1961 through 1981 or so we will use WIS auto-generated players. AAA player quality below average. Real names (you will just need to figure out the year of that player if you are so inclined). 6 bats (C,1B,2B,SS,3B,OF) and 2 arms (starter and reliever) will be automatically assigned to each team each season. We will draft our own AAA players beginning sometime between 1982 and 1987 (subject to league vote) from the leftover players who aren't drafted in the regular draft. For the 1969 season only, each team will get 6 bats and 4 arms.
  • Full/combined/partial seasons of players are all eligible to be used.
  • Trading of draft picks allowed up to one season in advance.
  • We have a 48 hour add/drop period after each draft.
  • We absolutely do not condone tanking games in this league. This has never been much of an issue here and the league takes great pride in that. Eyes are always watching, and even the appearance of tanking games can lead to dismissal from the league, period. If you play progressive leagues using this strategy, then you aren't welcome here. If you want to play in a league where everyone is trying to do their best regardless of what their roster looks like in any given season, then please choose us!
  • You have the ability to shuffle players up and down from AAA virtually all season (deadline is before game 160 of the season).

There are a LOT of details that go into most any progressive league, so please feel free to ask any questions!

A three-tier lotto system (6/7/7) is used to determine next season's first round draft order after 120 games. 6 worst teams get put in lotto for picks 1 through 6 in next season's draft. Next 7 worst teams get put in a lotto for picks 7 through 13, and so on. Lotto is for the first round of the draft only. Subsequent rounds are worst team to best team, based on record at 120 games into the current season. There is a 30 win minimum requirement by the 120th game into the season to qualify for a top 6 pick (this rule will be waived for the 1969 expansion season only). Teams that do not have 30 wins by the 120th game into the season get dropped down to the second lotto tier (for a pick between #7 and #13 in round one).

There is typically not a lot of down time between seasons. On average, we are starting the next season about one week after the World Series concludes.
Important: We attempt to keep things moving at a semi-brisk pace. We start drafting off the clock not too long after the 120 game mark at a leisurely pace. Once the playoffs start, we draft on the clock and pick up wherever we are in the draft at that point. We attempt to keep down time to a minimum between seasons, as we usually finish the draft around the same time that the World Series is finishing up. So keep in mind when considering our league that we move faster than the typical progressive, which may suit you very well or not so well. Missing deadlines to post keeper lists, making draft picks off the clock within 48 hours of the prior pick posted, and entering teams for the new season on time have not often been an issue in this league. We have certainly been fortunate to have such a terrific group of owners, and we do expect new owners to also be able to consistently meet the above noted deadlines.

The Talkin' Baseball league is a fairly standard, single season progressive: Alternate WIS Format E (4 divisions, 4 teams in each. Division winners make playoffs. Each series best of seven). No DH. No live play. Unlimited IR. No salary cap. 6/2 below average AAA players, randomly generated (6 bats, 2 arms).

A two-tier lotto system to determine next season's first round draft order after 120 games. 8 worst teams get put in lotto for picks 1 through 8 in next season's draft, 8 best teams get put in lotto for picks 9 through 16. Lotto is for first round of draft only. Subsequent rounds are worst team to best team.

As you read this, we are talking about expanding from 16 to 20 teams in the future. This won't happen before 1969. The goal is to have an expansion plan in place within a week or three.

We tentatively have four, but would like to start a short waitlist in the event that one or more back out when it comes time to start the expansion draft (estimated to start around mid-February 2015).

Please give me the Houston team. I see that there are 23 active and 2 players are on injured reserve. So, I can keep however many players that I want. If I cut players then I must fill their spots via draft (or free agency or trade). I'm ready. Let me know if i'm in, so I can hire my fron office, lol. I'm ready!
