Scouting Question Topic

I just scouted 100 kids to level 4 for $20000 or $200/per player. Is that what you guys are doing? Is it costing you more or less on average?

Less. Camp, scouting services, assistant search under 500, three times, then single scouting.

What is that getting you? At what level? What's the ratio?

Your location plays a part of this too.

For my East Coast teams I always get 200 players to show up for my hosted camp but on my West Coast teams I get at most 100. I had only 65 show up for my camp at New Mexico State this season.

Private camps are best bang for your buck so if you're in a location where you don't get to fully utilize this, it definitely makes scouting more difficult. Not a big deal for D1 but D3 it seems like it'd be a big impact.

But to answer your question, I got 175 D1 players to level 4. I spent:

$3,900- Hosted Camps
$2,600- Elite camp
$2,050- Elite camp
$7,860- Scouting Service
$37,500 - *** Coach
$53,860- Total

I'm not sure Elite camps are really worth it since you get D2 guys in there.

I might be missing something(Hosted Camps, probably).

SS is $15 per.
Asst Coach further scouting is $60 per.

Seems like $195 is the cheapest you can get. No?

The camps make it cheaper yeah. My problem, especially at D3, is the efficiency. I might do a camp but not be able to scout all those guys.

$39,480 for 258 D1 kids to level 4 at OK St. Gets me every D1 kid within 500 miles. Have some leftover to go after selected long distance guys with personal trips, if I want. $153/kid.

At Oregon, I got 145 for $23,415. My scouting radius was a bit tighter, because of fewer resources this season. $161/kid.

Camps make it cheaper, and also if you have a lot of guys in the top 100 in your scouting radius, their first level is free, so that brings it down, too.

Anybody wanna throw some D2 budget scouting numbers out there? I'd like to see if I'm on track. Ir if there's better methods. I'm in PA. I did FSS of all neighboring states, enough to get 271 recruits (all D1 guys), and a private camp of 200 D1 guys so far. I've got 14,000 left and I'm trying to decide if I want the elite camps or not. I think I have 2 days to decide before they start up

So I have always just stuck with old school Scouting Service, and selected my areas that way. Never did a camp before but am now intrigued...what level do they take players to?

edit: Nevermind, Ill just test it and find out myself in this next cycle...nothing to see here

My D2 teams are in PR and Mexico (okay SD but it's practically Tijuana) but this is what I did in D3. I ended up scouting all players within 200 miles to level 4.

If you're diligent, you may not need to scout using the assistant coach or camps. Personally, I find the camps to be inefficient spends (at D1, can't speak to other levels).

I scout a bunch to level 2, then pick and choose for l3, then pick and choose again for l4. Usually go state-by-state as I can judge potential competition/distance for each batch of those recruits and decide what kind of uncertainty tolerance I have. Also usually break it down PG/SG, SG/SF, PF/C in my searches.

At D2 Abilene Christian, I scouted 122 D1 players to level 4 for $20,810, or roughly $170/kid. I spent 1650 on scouting service, 3000 for private camp for 50 kids, and the rest with asst search.

Can I ask why 3000 on the private camp for only 50 players? I understand spending 12000 is a lot. But that leaves out 150 unknowns out there. What's the reasoning behind leaving opportunity on the table. Just personal preference? Dumb example, but what if the 50 they gave you were all "A" recruits, you most likely aren't signing any of those guys. (I'm sure that wouldn't happen, just an example)
