1972-1976 Divisional Draft League, FULL Topic

This draft will produce some interesting rosters. Each division will have different dynamics, some will be pitching-heavy and some will be hitting-heavy. Position scarcity will be the most interesting part. . . .you must decide which positions require an early pick and which positions have enough high-end talent to go around.

Here's how it will work. . . . after we reach 16 entries, each owner will be placed randomly into one of the four real life MLB divisions from 72-76. (AL West, AL East, NL West, NL East).

Each 4-owner division group will then conduct a snake-style draft of players from 1972-1976 who played in that division.
Only one instance of a player is allowed per division. You don't have to declare what version you are using at the time of the draft, you can wait and decide that while building your roster. If a player played in multiple divisions from 1972-1976 (e.g. Catfish Hunter) he would be eligible to be drafted in each of those divisional drafts (full or partial seasons only, unless a combined season is all in the same division).

The draft will be 26 rounds. . . . round 1 will be to select divisionally correct ballparks (so you will know your park before you select players). Then rounds 2-26 will be the player draft. Draft order will be randomly determined. You must select your ballpark from the provided list, we are only offering one park per franchise.

Correct, just like MLB 69-76. Gonna have to bring your A game all season long!

I'm in regardless, but quick question: Why are the Rangers in the East? The Senators were a going concern from 69-71 in the East, but they moved to Texas in 72 and went to the West - with Milwaukee moving to the East. Arlington is definitely further west than Milwaukee as well.

Ahhh, reddtrain, I'm thankful for your attention to detail! That would make the draft too complex trying to filter out the correct players considering those team movements.

We could do 1972-1976? Looks like those 5 years were stable. That's still plenty of players but would make it more challenging, we wouldn't all get to field an all star team. Would require the use of some lesser known 70's players. We could go with no DH if we do this as the PAs won't be nearly as plentiful.

72-76 might be more of a challenge. I tend to prefer leagues without a DH, but I'm definitely flexible.
