RIP Marinerrott Topic

Marinerrott passed away yesterday.

Tigerrott had posted it in the $120M league forum, but some of us don't check the league forums regularly or are in round 2, which is why I'm posting it here.

My condolences to Tigerrott and his family. Marinerrott was a beloved member of our WIS/WISC family. He had qualified for round 2 of the tournament but backed out for health reasons.

One of the true joys (for me) of WIS is the people whom I never met but still somehow consider to be friends. Marinerrott was (and Tigerrott is) a person of deep integrity and a great competitor. I enjoyed every interaction with him on this site.

My best wishes to the family.

My condolences. My father passed away about a year ago. So I can feel your loss.

Mine two years ago. He never shared my passion for baseball (like marinerott evidently did) but I did take him to a game in 2015 when he was down visiting. It was the beginning of the year and Jays mania hadn’t hit yet and we had great seats because Rogers Centre was mostly empty. I remember trying to explain why I was excited about the team that year and the great trade they had made in the offseason for Josh Donaldson. Donaldson hit two homers that game and we had a great time.
Enjoy the memories.

My condolences. It's really great and unique that both Marinerott and Tigerrott regularly finished in the top 24 in this tournament.

I also bonded with my dad over baseball. Even when he got sick and was near the end, the first thing he wanted to talk about was baseball (or hockey).

My condolences to Tigerrott and his family. I lost my dad on November 4, so I know how it feels, sadly.

I am starting to post in this thread as a tribute to my dad marinerrott, who passed away November 19, 2023. The first seven posts are from 2023. I have read those posts many, many times since I lost Dad. I want you to know how much both Dad and I love the WISC community. So I thought I would post stories about Dad occasionally. If anyone else would like to post, go ahead.

From 1993-2018, dad and I were bridge partners. We went to many tournaments together. After my wife Jean nearly died of a perforated colon, I told Dad that I wanted to spend more time with her instead of playing bridge. I suggested that Dad try SLB. One of hockeyhead's progs had an opening, and I asked hockeyhead to let Dad join. Hockeyhead didn't want to do it, because Dad had no experience.

I love when we get family connections around a game we love. My son hoozuredaddy has played a few seasons here with me, but he's not hooked yet. He's too busy for that.

I hear that. My son twfan played for a while and then life intruded. Since I am old, you will probably hear from him when I'm gone.

After being rebuffed by hockeyhead, Dad set his sights on Ozo's 90M TOC Advantage League. Dad always sought out the toughest competition. Dad could study harder and longer than anyone I have known. He read every advice forum he could find, and he read the developer forums so he could understand the algorithm. Ozo can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Dad won the WS in his second TOC Advantage League, and also won the TOC.

In 2020, Dad entered his first WISC. We both made it to Round 2. When I finished Round 2, I was in 13th place ahead of Dad. But he had one more game to play. It was a WS Game 7. He won the game to overtake me and finish 13th with me at 14th. Ozo even made a post in the standings thread about the old man beating the whipper snapper.
