Satchel Paige is looking for owners to fill several vacant positions. Whether you like to work on a rebuilding project or take over a team ready to win now, we have opportunities for you. Here is a snapshot of the teams available:
Charleston RiverDogs (63-99) 4th Overall Pick – It has been more than ten seasons since this franchise enjoyed a winning season. During most of that time it looks like a decision was never made whether to go all in to win, or to tear apart and rebuild. Armed with the 4th pick this season, it looks like rebuilding is in order. What’s needed is a strong owner willing to make tough decisions to turn this club around.
Tampa Bay Devil-Rays (71-91) 7th Overall Pick – Another team in rebuild mode. The good news is that previous ownership used a couple of high draft picks the past two seasons on starting pitchers, and both should be studs down the road. This team was about average in batting average and on-base percentage, but was light on SLUG, and as a result, was in the bottom half in terms of runs scored. Pitching was also below average. An owner looking for a rebuilding opportunity will do well here.
St. Louis Blues (73-89) 10th Overall Pick – Despite last seasons’ finish, this club has some nice pieces. They finished top ten in SLUG and the pitching was right at league average. Teams have made runs into the post-season with that combination. The problem is there were not enough men on base when the HR’s were hit, so they finished lower in runs scored. With a couple of on-base guys and a key arm or two and this team should be pointed in the right direction.
Boise Blue Hawks (81-81) 18th Overall Pick – This team missed the playoffs for the first time in six years last season. They have had consistent ownership, and they have a good nucleus. Pitching was above average in terms of WHIP and ERA, and the hitting middle of the pack. Again, the missing piece was some pop in the bats. For the right owner, this team is not far away from getting right back in the playoffs.
Scranton Donkeys (82-80) 20th Overall Pick – This club has won a division title eight out of the last nine years. On the one hand, a great accomplishment. On the other hand, not the best division in this world. But, a great opportunity for a new owner because once you get into the post-season, anyone can go all the way. Another team that was middle of the road in terms of pitching, but lacked any kind of consistent offense. If you are an owner who knows how to construct a productive line-up of hitters, this could be a good opportunity for you.
Chicago Chi-Sox (94-68) 26th Overall Pick – This team made it all the way to the LCS last season, finishing as a Wildcard. At times, it was a struggle for this club to score runs, as they finished I the lower half in most offensive categories. But, on the flip side, they were 6th in ERA and WHIP. Again, for an owner who knows how to add offense, this is a ready-to-win-now opportunity.
Detroit Lazy Susans (98-64) 30th Overall Pick – If you are an owner looking for a team that is ready to win right now, this is your huckleberry. This team has won the division title each of the last four years, and 10 out of the last 12 years. They have a dominant pitching staff, and they do enough with the bats to carry them into the playoffs. The offense was a little inconsistent, so if you are able to add some hitters to this line-up, it could contend for a World Series title.
If you enjoy a league with high competition and zero drama, grab one of the teams above.
