For the second time we have a matchup featuring two of the same pitcher. This time we have Pedro facing off against himself. For Nathalie, Adrian Beltre will be the only hitter to get a hit, with three of them, but unfortunately, each of those hits were singles.
Marc’s team managed to plate two in the 2nd and one in the 4th, but that was more than enough behind Pedro’s dominance. Marc advances to the semi-finals in his own “top this” challenge.
Final: Marc Carig 3 – Nathalie Alonso 0After the last match featured two of the same pitcher, this match features the only two lineups to have chosen these respective pitchers. Cliff Lee matches up against Walter Johnson.
Bryce’s lineup leaves runners stranded at third base in each of the first three innings, allowing Ben’s team to capitalize first on a 3-run HR by Johnny Bench in the bottom of the 2nd. In the 4th Ripken drove in Gibson (as Foxx) for Harper’s first run, but Ben’s team answered back in the bottom half with HRs by Arod and Mays to take a 6-1 lead.
Jimmie Foxx hits his own 2-run HR to make it 6-3 in the 5th, and a Schmidt blast brings it to 6-4 in the 7th. Johnny Bench answers back in the 8th to finish the scoring for both teams and Ben earns the right to face Marc in the semi-finals.
Final: Ben Shpigel 7 – Bryce Harper 4Greg Maddux gets the start for Blake against Jack’s Bob Gibson. Maddux has a rough first inning, though, as he allows three singles, a double, a base-on-balls, and a HR to allow Jack’s team to take an early 4-run lead.
Blake gets a couple runs back in the 2nd on a couple walks, singles, and a fielder’s choice, but Jack continues to put up two runs for every one Blake puts up and at the end of 4 innings, Maddux is gone from the game and Jack holds a 6-3 lead and by the 9th, that score has run its way all the way to 10-5.
Final: Jack Flaherty 10 – Blake Silvers 5My team started this match strong, sending the whole lineup up against Gibson in the first, but despite everyone coming up, we only managed to plate three. In the 3rd, we picked up a couple more runs, but stranded the bases-loaded for the 2nd time in this young game. In the 5th, Kevin’s Johnny Bench drove Sandberg in with a double. Hornsby crushed a 2-run shot in the 7th to drive the score to 7-1.
The defense put in work on this one as Maddux didn’t only not walk anyone, but he also didn’t record a strikeout. Kevin’s Johnny Bench threw out McGraw trying to steal twice. The walks did Gibson in as he walked 5 in just 3 innings pitched (with 5 ER, to boot).
Final: Brandon Wilhoite 7 – Kevin Frandsen 1
