I've played seasons of basketball and most winning teams have Rodman maybe Shaq/Wilt.  Guys like Kidd or LeBron.  And now I'm trying a baseball team where something like half the league has 1986 Tim Raines or 1908 Addie Joss.  I just don't see the point in playing a league anymore.  You either stick to the same team as everyone else or you lose.  What's the fun in that?

I think it would be great to add some random-ness or something.  I don't know how.  But the whole concept between whatifsports is what would happen if this great played this great but that's ruined because if you want to win you have to take the guys everyone takes.  It would be fun to see Mickey Mantle, Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey Jr on the same team but if you do that you'll lose to the 10 guys in the league with Tim Raines and Bip Roberts.

The most common complaint I've heard is playing against the same players all the time. An option to have a league where players (regardless of what year selected) appear on ONLY one team would breathe new life into the leagues. It can't be that hard to do. Just use a first come first served system where, when you are selecting your team, if you select a player already on an existing team in the league being filled, you cannot select that player.

Then the first team to enter has an unfair advantage. That doesn't really solve much - it'll just make it so the people who enter first (league starters, probably) win more.

How about adding a piece to the salary puzzle that takes into consideration how much the player is used on the WIFS site? Say, 20%? All of these oft-used guys salaries will increase, and maybe they won't get used as much.

Join a no clones theme league.  This option is always available.  Filling the league can be another issue.  The ODL and NCIH 52 draft leagues have primarily no clones except for scrubs.  Another option is a blacklist league where the players black list players from being used.  There are options out there.  I rarely play open leagues anymore for this very reason.
