#28 SF, #226 overall, **; no promises. I didn't scout Virginia, so I can't attest to McLean's potential. I had my initial SF target picked up by Ohio State, so I went and took on an undecided guy from a ways off. I had to fight Davidson off a little. Hopefully he'll work out. His ratings aren't bad right now, so I think he can at least serve as a backup.

#6 PF, #20 overall, *****; ineligible. I really hope that Christopher Bruce shows up. I put in a fair amount of effort on him, but considering that he's coming from some 480 miles away or so, it couldn't be too much. He's a nice player. A really good one, actually. Obviously his development would be deferred for a year, but I really, really like what I see here. We'll have a deep frontcourt, regardless, but I'd prefer to have Bruce around, because I think he's one of the best ineligibles I've seen, definitely in the potential era.

#7 C, #32 overall, ****; no promises. Solid but nothing special, Sheldon Dixon looks like a bench player who might make the starting lineup as a center, with time. I'm not crazy about his low potential on defense. He was a local guy, though, and I figured I'd take a flier on him. He's a pure center, plain and simple. I do wish he had better defense.

Well, well, well - guess who's recruiting class was just ranked #4 by CollegiateInsider.com? Nice job! Everybody in the Athletic Department is really excited - I think I'm even getting the administration behind what you're doing. Keep up the good work!

Here's the article:
College Basketball Top 32 Recruiting Classes

If I had gotten around to it, I would have given myself a grade of A. I definitely did get the best class in the Big Ten. The article gave me credit only for my eligible recruits, but Bruce, thankfully, showed up.

My old friend tannermcc at UTEP got the 5th ranked class, in spite of being on probation.

Notre Dame was 6th.

Starting from scratch on the distribution, this exhibition game let me know to turn it down for my PGs.

Labriola underachieved on rebounding but Ching held his own in spite of giving up an edge there.

Technically, right now, we're ranked 26th. If we don't vastly improve we'll have another disappointing year.

I forgot to post our second exhibition game, where we lost by 3 to #2 Georgia. Our SG shot poorly. I should maybe turn his distribution down, too. Anyways, here's the first game of the regular season.

Anyways, Conant shot well here. So mixed messages on that front. Benton rebounded a lot for his ability level. Ching underachieved there, but had a lot of blocks.

Any win is a good thing.

Lead for most of the game and then fall apart. Reminds me of last year.

I hear you're leaving WIS. You did a great job rebuilding after I gave up on HD, but unless you make it to the final four this season, you're going to have to go out knowing that you were the second best coach in MSU history
1/9/2009 4:51 PM
I'm going to be handing off the reins to a friend of mine, already a coach on HD who's very competent. I won't continue the tracking thread.

As for the question of the best coach in Michigan State history, I'd have to go with Tom Izzo.
1/10/2009 10:03 PM
The team winds up 16-10, RPI 64, SOS 55. I suppose that after the season I'll post the new ratings.
2/3/2009 7:59 AM
the team loses in the first round of the CT and goes to the PIT

[edit:]

and loses to Stanford
