I warned my successor away from Hendricks, who has a 61 rebounding rating with a low potential. No way he'd work in the Big Ten. Humphrey wasn't a perfect fit for the team but he'll be okay, and the team will need him next season (particularly if Warren goes pro early).

MSU cornered the market for the state of Michigan, basically. The class that's coming in is really very nice. Plus there's all that extra money to pay for research with FSS, and should help with the extra push for the one (or more) player(s) that will be targeted in six weeks.

Grade: A

It was as good as could possibly be expected or hoped for. Except that it would've been nice if Paul Heidenreich had been the player signed over Humphrey. Heidenreich was the foreign ineligible that MSU recruited and lost out on last year. He did his JuCo time, unfortunately, in Mississppi, close to Alabama, the team that ultimately signed him.

Well, well, well - guess who's recruiting class was just ranked #2 by CollegiateInsider.com? Nice job! Everybody in the Athletic Department is really excited - I think I'm even getting the administration behind what you're doing. Keep up the good work!

Paul Heidenreich would've been a pretty nice player for the Spartans, and would have helped to space out the classes better than Humphrey. No big deal, though.

Thoughts:

A talented group, but somewhat raw. If I were in control, I would probably drop the Press for most of the year, just because I haven't seen good results from Fullcourt Press, and there are a lot of new guys who need individual practice time. I suspect that Russo and Warren will go pro after this season. Russo is practically a certainty. Hodges won't be seeing much time and will ***** up a storm, and might transfer. He'd be useful next year, particularly in the absence of Russo. The average rating for this team should be well above 800 by the end of the year, putting them in the top 1% for sheer talent, but we'll see how they play as a team.
