Between our low number of missed shots and our offensive rebounds, we only really wasted 24 possessions in this game (missed shots - offensive rebounds + turnovers).  I haven't exactly tracked that number/statistic in the past, and obviously the pace of the game would be a modifying factor, but it sure looks from the results like we were very efficient.

Well, this is quite an improvement from yesterday.

Conference awards came out.  Freund is the player of the year, Jennings is the Freshman of the year.

We play Illinois tonight.  Their coach is the coach of the year.  They're ranked 15th with only 9 players under scholarship, and improved on their wins from last year, so I can understand that.

A 1-seed is (probably) on the line tonight.

That's a tough 9 seed.  They've lost to a lot of the good teams in their conference, consistently, in compiling a 20-10 record, but also beat Oregon State, which was ranked 4th at the time (and has a higher overall team rating than Michigan State).  So this is not a gimme by any means.

Stanford was more talented than the normal 9 seed, but they hadn't really put it together all year.  Still, I've had talented teams that went on a run in the NT in spite of mixed success during the regular season, and it was possible for us to lose this game.  I'm glad that we won, and did so comfortably.

Incidentally, I won National Coach of the Year (but oddly, not Conference CoY), the third for colorbind79 in Smith, including one last year.

 This was a crazy game...went to OT.  We lead by 9 at the end of the first half, but they clawed back into it with better FT shooting and some forced turnovers.  Juhl was our closer in OT, though his FT shooting could've been better there and at other times of the game.  An unbelievable victory.  One more win and we repeat as champions.

We were ahead by 2 at the half but did not do well in the last 20 minutes.  Our FT shooting was not good and our defense didn't do what it's done all year, and we are denied our second consecutive National Championship.  Oh well.  Regardless, it was a fantastic year.

Coach, don't be down. I know every coach dreams of winning a National Championship, but most never make it to the Final 4, much less to the championship game. That was still a dream season! I'm sure no one on campus will soon forget the job you did to take Michigan St. this far.

Shockingly, Roy Freund is staying at least one more year.  I don't know how much room he has to grow at this point but he should help us contend again for the title.

We are, however, losing James Juhl and Nicholas Rosen (a freshman!).
