The Spartans have the #1 scoring defense in the DI by more than 6 points.  So while we don't really have an offensive identity, other than efficiency (personally I think this is James Moore's team, along with Allen Sheehan), we can hang our hat on the defense thing.

There's a pretty good chance that Kingery and Villalta will transfer out of the school, which would be good.  Sheehan is, of course, graduating. Other players could go pro early but hopefully won't.  With that said, we have a postseason to play, and we are the #1 seed in the CT.  If we win it, we should have a 1 seed in the NT locked down.

Since we lost Cole, when we were expecting him, we started a PF in the SF slot in Season 50, and won the Championship (the final game was against Kentucky).  However, at least theoretically, we did lose a 2000 point scorer in the process.  I would still 100% take the Championship over the player, but we have not had a proper, scoring SF since.

We also seem to play Kentucky every year in the NT (and beat them -- hopefully we can keep that trend going) since that recruitment.  They are awfully talented this time.  No doubt we'll be battling them for recruits again within 2 weeks, regardless, and they took a senior transfer just to allow themselves to keep 25% of their ridiculous budget from last year.

#2 PF, #2 Overall, *****; no promises.  Allen Sheehan is a good, well rounded player with no real weaknesses besides FT shooting, but also no great strengths.  His rebounding leaves something to be desired, and he'll never be the best at anything, but he should prove to be a quality teammate and he should avoid many of the turnovers that one sees with many big men.  He should also get a fair share of fastbreak points, at least as far as that happens for PFs.  If his rebounding potential was High I would be singing his praises, but it isn't, and he'll be a bit of a liability on that statistic.

Allen Sheehan was our star this season, albeit on a team that was defined by defense rather than by offense.  Obviously he wasn't a Roy Freund or anything, but he was a good, well rounded player who stayed for four years, and that's tremendously valuable.  Any time a team loses a 1000 point scorer, there will be a void.  I think his most defining trait was being an A- FT shooter in the frontcourt...that's a hard combination to find, or to beat.

Anyways, it would've been nice to win another championship with Sheehan, but we didn't really have a shooting guard this year so the team was a little vulnerable to a team with one, and equivalent talent in other spots.  Hopefully we can beat Kentucky, or avoid them, on the recruiting trail.

Analysis:

We need a shooter.  Feldman did a fine job in the starting lineup last year as SG and we want to maintain enough PT for Edwards, so probably a backup SG (not allowing Kingery to see the floor, yet again).  We also want some youth in the frontcourt, to ease the transition after Vosburgh and Mitchell graduate.
