Promising a start and post season games Topic

I have 2 fr on my team that i have promised starts to this season. If they have started the the first 24 games of the season can i safely sit them for the last 2 games and CT play? If i make the NCAA or PIT will they get mad if they come off the bench. I cant afford to lose these guys but id like to put up my best lineup for the post season.

Ive seen both post season starts dont matter and post season starts do matter in this equation. Does anyone know for sure?

Once you hit the conference tournament you don't have to start them. I'm not sure where you heard that postseason starts do count towards promises. That has literally never been the case in the history of this game.

Yeah, this is false. Might have been true at one point but it isn't today.

Keep your promises or accept the risks. The risks exist.

Did you read the follow-up from CS in that thread? There is still 0 evidence that I've ever seen that postseason starts are required to fulfill promises.

This is obviously circumstantial, but I've had/seen players - since the time of that thread - with promises on the order of star+20 minutes who played at or near 0 minutes in the entire CT/NT and never said a word.

It is very important to recognize that the CS responses in question came up before the SportsHub purchase. Now it seems that seble is primarily/exclusively in charge of responding to support tickets, so we get reasonably well-informed answers on the first try. The whole time Fox was in charge, the first line or support was generally very poorly-informed. It was common to see utterly ridiculous first responses. You've been around forever, you know this is true. So the fact that a first response from CS said the postseason counted should ABSOLUTELY NOT be taken to mean that the postseason counts without additional support for that perspective. What I think is true is that some players will regard your promises as being broken at anything less than 100% fulfillment. But I still think the overwhelming evidence supports the longstanding notion that postseason play is not required for promise fulfillment.

CT games can certainly help fulfill a promise but it will not go against you if you decide not to start/play them. NT games dont count whatsoever towards promises. I would advise playing them the last two games of the regular season if they have complained in the past about starts or minutes.

I started 1 of my 2 Fr every regular season game. I started the other FR 25/26 regular season games and never got an email from him. Im thinking of benching one of these 2 for CT and NT. I'm hoping nothing bad will happen but my best lineup is with him off the bench giving me 20 min.

That is a wall of text.

It's a risk. All I'm saying.

If they haven’t said anything, you’re fine. You can sit them in the CT. No risk of transfer.

If you’ve skimped on starts, and a guy complains, you can supposedly improve his morale by starting him in the CT. He may still leave, and there’s no way to tell for sure that your lineup decision made any difference. But attributes, including work ethic, continue to develop through the end of the CT, so theoretically it can help.

Although there's slight risk in everything, if I started a guy 24 games straight to start the season, I would 100% bench them for both the remaining games, and beyond. IF IF IF you've never recieved a negative email. (Which I don't know why you would have. That wouldn't really make sense). All this is as far as ONLY honoring the promise of a starting spot. My opinion here doesn't apply if promised minutes are involved, and you're toeing the fine line there.

Hell, I play in a conference or two that's all sims. So I schedule as hard as possible early on. There's been multiple times, at least almost 10 times, where I alternate starts until I get a hate mail from a player, and then I start him the rest of the way. There's been times where it takes 9 games, 5 starts and 4 benchings, before it comes.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider playing a freshman that I wanted to pull, if he's 24/24 at this point. If a player won't complain until after 4 benchings in 9 games, 2 of 26 won't hurt.

I do aim for the 21/26 as most coaches say is a good floor. But that late in the season, I'd feel 110% comfortable sitting him the last two. That's just me.

Update: Benched the guy and never heard a word from him. started him 25/26 regular season games and benched all 4 post season games.

I have never had a player complain as long as I started them at least 80% of the games they were eligible to start in during the regular season, and, as long as that threshold was met during regular season games, found that CT and NT games didn't matter in terms of meeting the promise. I've heard they can help if you broke the promise during the regular season, but I've never tested this theory.
