Recruiting Question Topic

So, Phelan just crowned National Champions last night.  I'm at FSU and I did not have any EE.  I have 11 scholarship players on my team and 1 walkon.  None of them are seniors.  I have a good amount in carryover from the previous season.  If I offer teh guy a scholarship now, would I get the full carryover for next year?  Recruiting has not started yet.

Interesting strategy, and yes you would get full carryover.

your carryover would get hit (i.e., reduced to 25%) even if you have no schollies. see http://www.whatifsports.com/devchat/devchat.asp?chatid=20 @ 4:33pm. this dev chat is old as dirt and may have changed, but i don't remember seeing that it did anywhere.

This is not true. I had full carryover in Naismith this season.

likewise for me in Wooden this current recruiting season.

I didn't scholly someone up to get that way, but I fail to see why that would matter.

Well, I gave the scholarship.  Should have about 63k in carryover plus whatever recruiting money we get.  Also something I did not know was that if you sign a full class and have an ineligible who goes Juco, you still get the 25% carryover.

sully, so you signed a walkon to make a 12 man roster?  That is genius - I love it - new one as far as I know!

and if an IE does not show up to drop to 11, you do not get 100% but 25%, the words 'still get' confused me, like it should be still get 100%????

OR - here is a breakdown of what sully's saying: this past season (we'll call it season 1) FSU took a walk on, even though they had recruiting money leftover. carryover kicks in for 25%. between season 1 and season 2, no one graduated or left for any other reason. sully signs the walk on to have a full roster. 100% of the (25%) carryover plus 100% of the recruiting bonus are applied to season 3.

with the ineligible juco transfer, he was saying that the team doesn't get penalized for taking the walkon (i.e., no carryover)...so you still get the 25% even though you have a walk on.

Youre right, but the reason he got the 25% despite taking a walkon is because he signed a full class which included a JUCO...the Juco didnt show up but he still got credit for a full class.

Yeah OR...first time I've tried it but I thought it was worth a shot.  It would have been difficult to get a freshman PT anyways, so why not roll the dice.

I have been getting better walkons recently, I had 3 straight teams get hit with EE's (I don't feel bad, I like the EE thing, I think it was one of the better changes in the game, it is random, somewhat real, and does slow top teams / coaches down).  anyhow I needed 8,9,9 scholies, with one of my teams, I play a 460 something walkon PF/C in my regular rotation as the 10th man, I love when walkons are somewhat an option for PT, I used to play them more, esp when they used to improve.

The more options the game presents, the more fun it is.  I used to enjoy setting practice plans, as you know, guys had about 150-175 pts worth of improvement in the old days over a career, but we could kind of carve out where the improvement came, I enjoyed choices between making that PG a 85 pass or a 85 per, you couldn't get both but you could get one.  Contrary to some opinion, in those days, overall ratings were much lower in d1, I won all kinds of NT's with teams in the low 700's, and one with a 680 team of 12 scholy players.  The current game is sort of plug and play, or I should say recruit and play - recruit the nearest 800 player - hope you don't get a battle or he doesn't leave too early - and repeat - sort of boring - LOL

sully, that was a pretty brilliant idea.

I think they need to get rid of this glitch (getting to keep 100% of carryover) asap, but as long as it's there, you made damn good use of it.

so you like this one but not my 6-0-6-0 class structure idea which does the same thing...

Lol ... well, this is just a one-time, smart strategic play that he made ... the other structure is much different and I don't like for a few reasons -- at DI it's hard to keep due to EE's and walk-ons, so you're not likely to get carryover most of the time anyway, and I don't think it gives you the best chances to be competitive year-in, year-out.
