I'm curious how many owners have switched to bullpen by committee instead of having a traditional closer. I've done both and I guess I tend to use a closer than not. I tend to give my closer an 8th inning to be used instead of 9th only.

How do you know when you bullpen isn't set for a true closer and that committee is the best option? Are you wasting your "best" pitcher by only limiting him to the 8 or 9 inning when he could be used more often in set A role with a group of other pitchers.

thoughts?

I have never nor do I believe ever will use a closer. I would not want to leave quality innings unused unless of course I was not trying to win.

Yep, committee.

I do not use a closer. Even those guys that have lights out ratings, but stamina in the 10-18 range, I still have them as setupA. Using a closer is great if you're trying to win fireman of the year, but don't win fireman of the year at the expense of one of your best pitchers pitching less innings than he can.

I generally use a Closer, but he's not my best RP or even my second best. Bear with me, this is probably classic overthinking.

I'm one of those who believe the modern "save" is light work. Ninth inning, just get three outs without a run scoring (or one, or even two.) And the pitcher might even be facing a weak part of the order. In those cases I'd rather not use my best RP in which case then he'd then be gassed for the next game.

So my closers are usually guys with obvious weaknesses. Lower control, DUR/STA combo, or only one good pitch. Guys who aren't actually as good as my real SuAs. My best guys pitch the 7th and 8th innings.

don't overthink it. put your best tier relievers at SuA, next best tier at SuB, and worst guys as LRs. Simmy will put the correct guys in based on the circumstances. Your best pitchers will pitch in the close games and your worst pitchers in the blowouts.

Going to ride out bullpen by committee this season and see how they do. My starting pitching is not strong, but I think I've got decent dept in my pen and no one guy will be the "guy". So the starters get in trouble, low hook and let the pen do their business. I'm not even sure who would be the closer on this team, so let the experiment begin.

ABD.

ABS

Nah, I choose ABD over ABS. It works better for me.

I have no idea what the heck you all are talking about.

Screw the letters. You want your best pitchers pitching the most innings possible. End of story.
