my next opponent, the #20 St. Louis University Billikens. I have no idea what a Billiken is, but Wikipedia is pretty awesome.

Thebillikenwas a charm doll created by anAmericanart teacher and illustrator, Ms. Florence Pretz ofKansas City, Missouri, who is said to have seen the mysterious figure in a dream. In1908shepatentedthe Billiken who waself-like with pointed ears, a mischievous smile, and a tuft a hair on his pointed head. His arms were short and he was generally sitting with his legs stretched out in front of him.

Analysis:

Well, they're not as deep as the Spartans. Their starters have good stamina, though. They shoot FTs well. Um...I'll have to think about whether to go uptempo or try to beat them straight up. They rebound well. I dunno.

I decided to stick with uptempo -1. We ultimatey won by getting their starters in foul trouble, and forcing turnovers. Definitely not a pretty game, but we're in the Final Four now, and that's great.

Wisconsin is in the Final Four, too. If both of us win tonight - a big if - then we get to decide the National Championship with a fourth game in one season, after deciding the Conference Championship with our third.

Analysis:

Man, is this team good. A fully developed motion/zone-press squad with great depth and great talent. No weaknesses, nothing to exploit. I'm the underdog here, but I have a great team, too, so I'm not a bad one. Underdogs do win sometimes...plenty, really. Anything can happen. I wouldn't be surprised by a win, but I wouldn't be surprised or terribly disappointed by a loss. Not much to do other than see what happens.

We were leading by 15 at the half, so you can imagine my disappointment with this result. We just couldn't rebound with them, and they got enough of an edge out of that to knock out my advantage in some other areas.

Coach, sure a trip to the Championship game would have been fantastic, but let's face it, we're proud that you were able to take Michigan St. to the Final 4 - only 4 coaches can say that. Hopefully you'll be around to take us even further next season.

this was without a question our best chance to win a National Championship for a while. Hopefully my prestige will go up by a lot and I'll be able to recruit some excellent freshmen. Time will tell.

#23 C, #122 Overall, ****; promised the start, promised 20 minutes. Jimmy Brown's a local guy, which is why I targeted him. I'm not crazy about his WE, and his FT shooting is meh. He's got some good room to grow, though, in a lot of areas, while also being ready to contribute in a big way immediately. He played the Triangle/Man-Press in high school. He'll be good. I'm not guaranteeing he'll make the NBA or anything, but it's not out of the question
Jimmy Brown saw a lot of play and improved a great deal. I don't know if he'll get drafted; he's a borderline case, maybe helped by our Final Four run. His stats were solid but not phenomenal...he started this year statistically very weak and finished strong. A big contributor, but not a star.

#11 PF, #30 Overall, *****; promised the start, promised 20 minutes. The last of the big man recruits for the year, Fred Webb is the best player I've ever signed. He's got a ton of room to grow and a great DE rating and he's top notch at the FT line. Granted, he's not the best rebounding big man I've seen, but that'll change. His low post rating will get up to a very high level, too. I was positively shocked to get him without any kind of battle. He will be an NBA player for sure. His team ran the Man-Press on defense but I don't know what he did for offense.
Fred Webb was a star on a well-rounded team. He's gotten very good since coming to Michigan State and starting as a freshman. Maybe he peaked as a junior, statistically, but I think his decreased production was more a product of the rest of my team getting better and taking the burden off of him. We were one of the best defensive teams in the country this year, and I am convinced that Webb played a huge part in that.

If this game had Academic All-Americans, Webb would be on the First Team.
