#5 PF, #7 Overall, *****; no promises. Well, how do you like that? Here's the best recruit in the history of Michigan State, as far as I know. Positives? Ratings and potential in nearly every important category. Negatives? Free Throw shooting - that's it! The question about James Donahue isn't whether he'll make the NBA, it's when. Personally, I'd prefer it happen after his senior year, but that's pretty unlikely.
I don't know if James Donahue will be leaving early this year, but it wouldn't surprise me, so I'll post him up for a "senior" retrospective, now, and erase it if he stays.

Donahue is a damn good player. We'll miss him if he leaves, but we have guys waiting in the wings, to a degree. He'd probably be drafted in the top 10, somewhere, even though he wasn't that productive, offensively.

Well, the team needs two guards, a small forward, and a big man. Libby can be recruited over pretty easily, I'd think. Peterkin also doesn't have a stranglehold on his job, and of the big men, only Skrzypinski is a firm starter. Childs is the star of this group, probably, with Skrzypinski coming in a close second.

After the four needs I listed, my successor may want to go after another guard, or possibly a JuCo sophomore, to better space out the classes. A senior transfer might be worth having...but there really aren't many of those available and they're only slightly better than walk-ons.

I'm still tracking the team but I don't make most of the decisions. I handed off the reigns to MSU and UDC (a DII team in Knight, which was quickly dropped...and which has since won a championship) to a coach who I trusted, and kept Maryland, in Crum, for myself. I do contribute somewhat to the Spartans, but I'm not the main coach, more like an assistant, or athletic director.

Pete thinks maybe this replacement should be fired. Could of cleaned up in Michigan guards and easily brought home 3 top 10 ranked guards from michigan. Decided to battle the dominator and lost and ended up with 1 guard instead of the 3 he should have. Pete realizes that sometimes foolish pride gets in the way, hopefully it doesn't set MSU to far back

I didn't post the new guys. Anyways, we got a five star C, with a promised start, a four star PG who will back up both slots and improve a lot over his career, and a three star Canadian SF who I don't know how he's going to progress. The team will run 9 deep and will have to make do by going with a slowdown. PeteC (Kentucky) beat my successor, badly, in a battle for a top ten PG. My successor spent something like $52k on that battle. My successor lost another $15k battle to Michigan. He beat Northwestern for the C (maybe $20k) and a few teams who weren't heavily invested at all for the SF (roughly $2k). The PG came in for $9k or so.

There were a couple other local players who could have been had, but the PG that cost this year's recruiting so heavily was 100 miles away from us and 280 or so from Kentucky, so I don't blame my successor for thinking he'd win that fight and that PeteC would go elsewhere. Obviously this could have been handled differently, but hindsight is 20/20, and this does help round out the classes a bit more, on the positive side.
