unranked foreigner, ****; redshirting. Osowski is a developmental prospect, but a good one. His perimeter rating could certainly improve, and hopefully will considerably. I like his rebounding. I don't like his athleticism. He shoots FTs pretty well. That about covers it.

unranked foreigner, ****; promised the start, promised 20 minutes. I signed Diaz for as cheap as I could, which meant I had to promise him some stuff that he doesn't exactly deserve. He could use the start and minutes to boost his work ethic. I guarantee that his guard skills will all be up a bunch, maybe even maxed, by the time he leaves as a senior. He rebounds well, but I wish he were more athletic. I like his FT shooting. Sound like a pattern?
4/24/2008 8:29 PM
I screwed myself up by persisting in a fight that I knew I was unlikely to win, and not going hard enough after my fallback plan, a JuCo PG. I did have the JuCo guy considering me and me alone and thought that he'd jump at the chance to sign once I gave him the scholarship, but I didn't put anything other than a promise of 15 minutes behind it. I had $10k at one point and I easily could've gotten him to sign, but now Eastern Michigan has shown up and is taking him from me, and I'm totally tapped out. He would've helped fix the class structure here, too, and wouldn't have been a bad addition to the team. Now we'll have to split up a lot of PT between maybe four guys, total, in the two guard positions and second string SF. It's not a disaster, but it's a screw-up. I also gave up quickly, and what seemed smartly, on a battle with Marquette after they supplanted me on a high ranked SG sometime yesterday. That was when I chose to battle St. Bonaventure and another team for a local PG. I knocked them both off but the Bonnies came back and I had only a relatively limited budget of $35k total for the kid. I had a distance advantage and a slight prestige advantage. There was one other guard I took a swipe at for $1.5k. Well, I screwed up. The recruiting season wasn't bad, but it could've gone a lot better. I refuse to take the redshirt off of my Romanian. Freshmen are often useless, seniors are generally great, and having a guy essentially skip his freshman year and get an extra senior season is too good to throw away for the sake of an extra win or two when my team is not going to be a postseason contender this year.

This isn't a criticism, but I thought WIS eliminated the $120 specials, or was at least trying to make promises not mean as much if you hadn't gone after them that hard.

Nobody else went after my Spaniard. He got a promise to start at Michigan State. That's got to count for something. In this case, it counted for enough to sign him. Keep in mind we're still talking about a Big Ten team with a B- prestige.

While we don't look like a championship squad with narrow wins like this against SIM AI coached teams from lesser conferences, we're a ways off from contending. We rebounded pretty well, at least. I like our depth in our frontcourt.

loss in game 1, at home, to Northern Illinois. By 4, I think. I'll probably put these types of game summaries here in this box unless things get interesting.

[edit, 4/30/08:]

win in game 2, against cbriese's Tulane team, by 23, at home. I was pleasantly surprised by this result, as I thought I'd be posting a string of losses. Tulane isn't a bad team, either. We were lead by Diaz, Lumpkin, and Mireles.

I highlighted anybody I thought may be a problem. Looks like there's one that needs some extra study hall time:

more losses...it's really not worth documenting. The Big Ten is the hardest conference in Smith, this year, and I have the worst team in the Big Ten, this year. I am getting nowhere. Maybe I'll get good recruiting money from all this brutality.
