Clemson has a fluke game, we have a normal game, and we lose by 10. Oh well...I guess I have to wait longer to have even a share of a DI Championship.

Now it's just a question of how many early entries, and who it'll be. I predict Hoffmann and Wilkey.

Coach, that was a tough matchup for us. The team did the best they could and we just came up short. We still had a dream season, only 4 teams made it this far.

[edit, 5/9/10:]

Well, Hoffman is staying, but Wilkey, Olsen, Campbell, and Richardson are all leaving early. I have to say I am surprised by everyone but Wilkey (who probably would've gotten drafted higher next season). Olsen and Campbell and Richardson all were mediocre defensively. Campbell and Olsen had an efficient year statistically, whereas Richardson was the forgotten man in the starting lineup. This will be an interesting recruiting year, with 7 open slots now. We will need at least two big men, one guard, and two players who can handle the small forward position. Having to replace this many players is sort of ridiculous...three out of four simply weren't anywhere near the best possible pros.

apparently I didn't post profiles of the new guys in season 40, who are now seniors. Well, here they are, and what I said:

"I didn't post the new guys. Anyways, we got a five star C, with a promised start, a four star PG who will back up both slots and improve a lot over his career, and a three star Canadian SF who I don't know how he's going to progress."

McCausland developed well and turned into a better pass-first PG than he was a shooting PG. He was never as efficient with his shot as I would have liked, but it wasn't his best rating by any measure.

Buchanan developed okay and remained a quality bench player for the team. His presence will be missed, to some degree, but less than anyone else leaving the team this year.

Carey was a beast. One of the best centers I have had the pleasure of having on my team. He was efficient in every aspect of the game except for FT shooting (if he'd been a 70%+ shooter, that would have made him completely dominant). There will be enormous shoes to fill next year. In Jameson, we have someone in place who will try, and might have a chance to compare somewhat.

#20 PG, #90 overall, ****; no promises. The limiting factors for Olsen will be his athleticism and potentially his defense. He will be at least a quality backup for the Spartans. The athleticism issue is a fairly large one for the Press, however
Well, Reginald Olsen declared early for the draft in spite of never cracking the starting lineup. In truth, he might not have cracked the starting lineup next year, either, with Etheridge waiting in the wings. I suppose this might have been his best chance to get paid to play, so while this is unrealistic, I wouldn't blame the hypothetical player for making this decision if he could be guaranteed to be drafted this year and it were in doubt next year. Anyways, he was a very efficient PG both as a passer and a shooter. Not a star but a solid contributor to a very good team.

#12 SG, #74 Overall, ****; no promises. We had to beat Butler, a C+ team, for his services. He'll be a good reserve, spark off the bench guy; he'll preferably never breach the starting line, due to his defensive rating/potential
Campbell didn't get to the starting lineup in his three years at Michigan State, but I thought he might, next year, if Hoffman , which he didn't. Anyways, he was exactly as predicted, a good reserve, spark off the bench guy. I'm glad that we recruited him. It's troublesome that he won't be around for next season, and he'll have to be replaced immediately because of our lack of depth at the SG position now.

#28 PF, #81 overall, ****; no promises. The limiting factor for Richardson will be stamina, with defense also possibly topping off too low. Otherwise he's a very nice player, and could even play SF, in a pinch.
Richardson played SF, in a pinch, in the starting lineup. His stamina limited him as a junior to 15 minutes per game. There is absolutely no chance that this guy would ever get drafted in the real world, but it's clear that he will be in Smith. Kind of ridiculous. The worst part is, he pushed us over the point of having to replace 6 players, and we could have really used his help as a senior.

#2 PF, #10 Overall, Mr. Indiana, *****; no promises. There was a little fight for John Wilkey with Kansas, but their coach overextended himself and paid the price with a really bad situation where he was in a half dozen long-distance battles for top players at the same time. I've seen the same thing happen before, to a minor extent to me and to a major extent with LSU in Crum (which has since recovered, but it took quite some time). Anyways, Wilkey is a star, but won't have to be one this year. He's one of the best big men I've seen. Hopefully his rebounding will top out closer to 99 than to 90; same for defense, shot blocking, low post, and stamina, but even the worst case scenario isn't bad at all
Wilkey early, which didn't surprise me. I wasn't even surprised that it was this year instead of next, though I was hoping to have him for one more. He's the first sophomore on one of my teams to declare for the draft. His absence leaves a gaping hole in our starting lineup. He still had a fair amount of potential and I really would have liked for him to be around another year, but in contrast to the other early entries, him staying longer would not have been realistic.
