even though I didn't recruit him, I think I should mark the passing of Parker Lumpkin, who has been an excellent guard for the team even though the team has struggled. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see him drafted.

#33 PG, #147 Overall, ****; no promises (but I could've promised 15 minutes easily). Louis Boulay has two of the key ingredients to a good PG - passing and ballhandling. He could stand to improve his speed, and I'll certainly be working on his perimeter shooting. I like Boulay's rebounding, and I like that I got him on the cheap side. He's a little underrated due to his durability.

#28 SF, #276 Overall, ***; no promises (I asked him to redshirt but he said no). I really wanted Thomas Mulvey to redshirt, but it is impossible, as far as I've seen, to get a half-decent SF to agree to that. Since Mulvey is (roughly) half-decent, it was a doomed effort and I should've known better than mention it, instead waiting to see if he'd take it upon showing up at campus. Mulvey is, without question, a career backup. His FT shooting is abysmal, and he doesn't excel anywhere except perimeter shooting (and that, only to a degree). Still, I had two promising looking SFs fall through, to Michigan and Pittsburgh, respectively, and the options behind Mr. Mulvey were ineligibles, who I wanted even less than a non-redshirtable redshirt candidate.

#21 PF, #84 Overall, *****; no promises. If you want to see a truly compelling candidate for an uninformed red-shirt-i-fi-ca-tion, meet Harry Anderson, a.k.a. Mr. Michigan (Michigan Man?). Anderson has great potential, and an extra year would do nothing but good for him, provided his WE isn't shattered by the prospect. He is raw, raw, raw. Frontcourt TarTar. However, he's got good speed, decent athleticism, great defense, and decidedly undeveloped rebounding and low post. His shot blocking is low for a big man, but that won't change much, and it matters to me about as much as it will change.

Coach, I wasn't sure how I'd take being redshirted this season, but to be honest, I've never been more upset or angry in my life.

I just don't think it's cool that you didn't say that I would be looking at a redshirt season when I got here.

Harry

dropped his WE down to 9. Not acceptable. I'll try someone else.

Canadian therefore unranked, *****; no promises. I got a battle for Dominic Labriola from Buffalo, but it never worried me because they had only enough money to fill one scholarship. The positives: he's got a good work ethic and low post rating, so I don't have to worry about that, good passing and defense and decent rebounding and shot blocking. The negatives: his FT shooting is decidedly sub-par. C- if I'm lucky. He's also not very fast or athletic. He will be able to play immediately, and I'm pretty sure he'll be doing just that. No real expectations regarding the NBA. If I had to guess, I'd say he's not gonna make it, just due to his speed and athleticism.

hmm, maybe that prediction was premature...

The top two guys on the list are ineligible SFs I had considering me for promises alone. They'll probably be picked up by other coaches soon enough. I decided to stick with Mulvey because I wanted my backup SF to progress in the system during his year on the bench. He would've been much better as a redshirt, but whatever. My ideal SF signee would've been Matthew Rogers, but Michigan has an A- prestige and there were two other teams in the mix, so I decided to pull back and put in some effort on Richard Bryant...then I scouted Pittsburgh, and saw that they needed an SF and hadn't targeted one yet, and knew he'd disappear more likely than not, so in that same cycle, I targeted Mulvey and the ineligibles. Cleveland State decided to try to wrest Anderson from me, but I knew that wasn't going to happen, and Buffalo I just made sure I put in more effort than they could, and let them hang around on the considering list for a while as I went on a long date last night.

Grade: B (It would've been a lot better with Rogers or Bryant)

Coach, just got the latest issue of Collegiate Insider. They had their annual Top 32 Recruiting Classes. I was really surprised we didn't make the list - I thought we had as good a recruiting class as anyone. One of my fraternity brothers works at CollegiateInsider - he said we were #34. I still think they're crazy.

7 steals by Weaver. Really good defense, all together. Good offense, too. FT shooting could improve. I love taking down Duke, anywhere, and I'm particularly happy to trounce them.

Our offense wasn't good here, but our defense worked well. FT shooting continues to be a problem.
