I played 1.0, 2.0 and now 3.0 and 2.0 seems pretty ideal. I really don't have any complaints.

Does anyone else have an opinion on the new play by play narrative? We find that the expanded dialogue in the play by play takes away from numerical facts. We use those to double check our scouting reports to game plan, and wading through the additional words just takes more time.

You can just switch to basic play-by-play. To give the basic plays and yards gained/lost.

As for set-up/game play, I expect there will be changes to greatly improve game play (time/speed to set up pays etc) once the bigger kinks are worked out of the new version.

Thanks for the heads-up hazing. I had overlooked that option.

Also, ez37, that extra dialogue does actually hide some useful gameplanning data, even though most of it is just narrative gibberish.

Overall, I think GD 3.0 is a major improvement over GD 2.0.  Couple things still need to be fixed, other than what they already plan to fix:

(1) Like in GD 2.0, randomness in game results needs to be toned down.  While it is necessary to have some variation, to have this much is just silly - shouldn't be able to go from 60-0 win to 23-28 to loss back to a 52-3 blowout win).  Upsets should come from gameplanning, not statistical variation unless the game should be close.
(2) Someone's going to have to write a guide on how to create your own gameplans.  I see way too many people who don't know how to create working gameplans, as evidenced by the vast # of games that don't sim.
(3) Making defensive settings matter more is one of the biggest improvements GD 3.0 has made over GD 2.0: Setting your defense to stop the run or pass now has the desired rewards and consequences.  However, one side effect is the proliferation of Gimmick Offenses: All Wishbone Pass and All Shotgun Rush are going to proliferate in droves if the passing out of Wishbone and running out of shotgun isn't toned down somewhat.

I don't know. I am not seeing the game plan making as much of a difference. Though only played a little 2.0 and am checking out the beta to see if I want to jump back in. So I could be missing some obvious game plan and depth chart settings.

Simulating a bunch of games against teams that pass 5 times a game, and always run out of the same set, the stats look fairly similar as my defensive run tendency goes from 65% to 90%. Also added in blitz percentages up to 30% of the time. My DL is better than their OL and the RB's are nothing special (I am only looking at the core attributes identified in 2.0). I also tried to put my best tacklers in at CB since many run outside over 90pct of the time.

The teams are not using gimick offenses. My last 30 test games were against a team running out of trips. My base D is a 3-4 or Nick.

OK. I was wrong and there is some statistical variance. I ran 20 games at 90/10 run/pass and 20 at 60/40. I guess I expected bigger differences. But its nice to have tendencies matter.
